Twelve months ago, Highview Accounting & Financial opened its Gold Coast office, marking an exciting new chapter for the business. Leading the expansion was Senior Partner Darren Crowther, who had been visiting the region for over 25 years and knew the potential it offered. What started as a vision to establish Highview in the area has quickly become a thriving team and a growing presence in the community.

“It’s not a number. It’s not a target. It’s not a milestone on a KPI spreadsheet. It’s the team, 100 per cent,” Darren says when reflecting on the past year.

Building a new office from the ground up is never easy. Different personalities, skills, and life experiences do not always click immediately. Sometimes it takes time, and sometimes it does not click at all. But over the past year, the Gold Coast team has created something special. They work together, support each other, and build real synergy, achievements that Darren finds more exciting than any number on a report.

Having visited the Gold Coast for decades, Darren says building a professional life here feels both familiar and new.

“Honestly, it feels good, but different. Mornington in Victoria will always be home, that will not change. But the Gold Coast is quickly becoming something very similar for me. The best part is realising I now have two places that feel like home, and I get the best of both worlds.”

Learning and adapting

Leading the Gold Coast office has come with a steep learning curve. Darren explains that understanding what works and what does not, from the ground up, has been the biggest challenge.

“I’ve had to learn how to work with clients simultaneously at the same time, who are at completely different financial milestones due to geographical economics. Each needing a different level of support and guidance. And at the same time, I’ve been juggling a personal and family life that is constantly evolving to align with the needs of the business, because that is life. It never sits still, it rarely goes to plan, and you just have to adapt as you go.”

Despite the challenges, the Gold Coast office has grown and evolved significantly in its first year. Darren reflects on how the team has faced both the joys of opening a new office quickly and the challenges that come with it.

“When you’ve faced and solved difficult problems together, your bond grows, your confidence grows, and you realise you’ve got this. That is how strongly aligned, resilient, confident teams are built, sometimes almost overnight.”

Looking ahead

What excites Darren most about the next chapter for Highview on the Gold Coast is the growth ahead. The team has laid strong foundations, strengthened their capabilities, and proven they can handle whatever comes their way.

“There’s so much potential here, and we’re ready to step into it with confidence.”

After a year of building, learning, and adapting, the Gold Coast office is ready to take the next steps, expanding its impact across the region while maintaining the strong culture and connection that Darren believes is its most valuable asset.

The Highview team congratulates Darren and the Gold Coast team on a successful first year and looks forward to seeing what comes next.
