Goal setting within your business

goal-setting

They say growing a business without goals is like sailing a ship without a rudder. I have never been sailing but imagine it’s pretty difficult without something keeping you on course and steering you through the difficult times.

Setting goals within your business should do exactly that. They should keep you focused on achieving a long term aspiration, inspire you, drive consistency and reflect the values you follow within your business.
Every year we review our short and long term goals we have here at Highview so have put together three tips that I recommend all of our clients implement when setting their own goals. These can be applied within a business or outside in your personal lives.

1. Dream Big
The initial thought process should be about what is your dream scenario in 5 – 10 years? Million dollar turnover, buying an investment property, a 40 hour work week or being able to retire. What ever the dream is for you and your family, your goals should always be aimed at reaching this long term, aspirational objective.

2. Break it Down
A long term goal may seem unattainable and can discourage continued effort. So you have to break the goal down to where do I need to be in 3 years or 12 months from now to be in the best position to get that long term goal. Then what do I need to be doing straight away to hit that 12 month goal.

3. Share them with the world
The more people that know about your goals the more people that can motivate you and help you along the way to achieve them. I highly recommend sharing the goals for your business with your staff. It will make them feel more included, more engaged and after all they may be your biggest asset in reaching them.

4. Celebrate Success
When you achieve one of these interim goals or objectives you need to celebrate it. Celebrate with your staff, your clients or even simply your spouse. Toast the little victories so that one day you will be the champion!
